I am slowly putting together information to teach a class entitled “An Introduction to Trauma Informed Astrology.” This will dovetail nicely into the next level class: “Skillful means: Working with Trauma in the Astrology Chart.”

Having been studying and practicing trauma-informed bodywork modalities and learning didactic wisdom of working with the nervous system since 2012, modalities which include Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and Working with the Polyvagal System – Touch Skills for Trauma Work, I bring a unique perspective to working with trauma and the astrology chart. This will be a fusion of trauma-informed modalities and psychological, health & wellness and Spiritual astrology – which I have been studying since 2003. Much wisdom and knowledge will be shared and there will opportunities for participants to ask questions.

We will spend time going over the basics: what is trauma? what are some common aspects reflecting that level of overwhelm or chaos in the natal chart? what is the Window of Tolerance or the Functional Range? what is sympathetic charge vs parasympathetic charge? What aspects in the chart indicate a sympathetic bias or a parasympathetic bias? What is the trauma vortex and how do we avoid re-traumatizing someone? and much much more! We will especially cover things to keep in mind if you work with someone who might have trauma in their system. Plus we will work with some of the newer research about the Vagus Nerve.

The Vagus Nerve, which is one of the main regulators of the autonomic nervous system, and otherwise known as the Soul Nerve, is 80% afferent – meaning 80% of its impulses are traveling from the body up to the brain. And therefore only 20% of its nerve impulses are coming down from the brain to the body. You could say we have a 4 lane highway going up to the brain from the body, and only one lane coming down from the brain. Hence, processing from the body up, or bottom-up processing is the way to work with trauma. We must get into the body to heal the body and repair the nervous system in the body. If we just do primarily cognitive talk therapy, which is very supportive in some ways, we may not ever get to the bottom of a trauma pattern.

This is an ambitious plan I know… however this is the perfect fusion of trauma-informed bodywork, cognitive information on working with trauma and the nervous system and looking at these aspects in the astrology chart as well! It is blending many things I am passionate about!

It is my intention to have this class have an online component. I live in Charlottesville Virginia, a fairly progressive and “awake” small city, but even with our alternative medicine and healing scene, this is still a tiny niche. Hence I want to open this up to anyone who is interested in this rewarding topic.

Let me know if you are interested! My intention is to get this going by September or October.

Thank you for reading!

Hello Dear Readers,

This spring has been a bit of an astrological headache for me. Some days I have been disheartened to be certain. As a matter of fact, there was one day in early May that every transiting planet was making a hard aspect to my Natal Chart (thank goodness for my spiritual practice – the only adverse effect I experienced besides a lot of extra irritability was dealing with a traffic violation). These “difficult” aspects or one might say, learning experiences, include Saturn squaring my Natal Pluto / Moon, Jupiter square my Natal Sun conjunct Neptune and more… Ugh!

And now the Transiting personal planets are beginning to enter my 12th house meaning it is a time of more incubation, inside time and continuing to allow the hatching of more presence, awareness and stability. But assuredly not a time of pushing outwardly to get more clients! (Tr. Mars is currently in my 12th, with the Moon entering it temporarily for its monthly 3 day journey, then Mercury enters soon, followed by the Sun and Venus is not too far behind! Should be quite an interesting two months…)

By the way, please make a contribution to my blogging efforts if you haven’t already! Thank you for supporting my spiritual practice / blogging efforts! If you make a contribution, feel free to pass me along a list of names – I will say healing mantras and pray for you and your loved ones each month. (I do this most days anyway, but having a specific name always helps!)

Needless to say, I am anxious to get my business (bodywork, healing facilitation) off the ground. So far, it has been growing in fits and starts, but since March, I am not getting many new clients (that is the trouble with being a good healing facilitator – we turn over clients every 2-3 months as they start to get better! I jest of course about this being trouble.) I returned from the amazing Taoist Massage School over a year ago which you may want to go back and read the posts for – it was a magical experience! I was there from late Jan – late April 2018. And I was all juiced up from doing Qigong and other forms of Chi cultivation for four to five hours / day… yes you read that correctly! So of course I pushed hard for new clients and was all geared up for learning new massage techniques.

It is funny though how when Saturn comes along and makes a hard aspect to Pluto, or in my case to both Pluto and the Moon, we can suddenly start to second guess ourselves as obstacles begin to show up that weren’t there before. In my case, these are mostly inner obstacles. I am not 100% certain what to focus on in my practice (I only offer about 10 modalities…) I don’t know if / when / what I should teach – I do want to teach soon, but just not sure what. Many questions and few answers right now. I am struggling to rest patiently and confidently in “I-don’t-know” mind.

Which is why I sat earlier and wrote out a new intention for my meditation. I want to clear my mind, settle my nervous system and purify karmic obscurations AND asked, “Where should I put my energy?” and “How can I best be of service to sentient beings and rest in ease-full abundance?”

I was surprised (not that I should be by this point) to get an answer in the form of a vision pretty quick. I saw the space around my clients and around my appointments being vacant, almost void like. And I was swiftly reminded of one of my aspirations for 2019 – that is to Fill My Container and to quickly Patch Any Leaks in it. So that is my next mission…

More practice, more inner orientation (at least for another 5-6 weeks) and more weeding out thoughts / conduct that take me out of having an open loving heart. It is a lifelong process – especially for those of us with deeply ingrained habits and patterns of dissociative behavior (in my case, it took the form of computer games and reading / writing fantasy stories). Slowly leaning into support, learning more about the nervous system, resting down, slowing down, spending more time in nature, eating well, etc. Doing the inner weeding is worth it though!

Most years I typically dread the summer time. And I am a Leo Rising who loves the sun and swimming and going to the beach, etc! I believe this sense of dread has to do with the annual parade of personal planets through my 12th house (which always starts around late June if not sooner – at least for Sun, Mercury and Venus). As I increase my inner stability, increase inner light and repair / release more and more shadow material, then this time will only get easier. Thank goodness that change is guaranteed! ūüôā

Transiting Uranus is currently in the sign of Taurus. It just arrived in this sign in 2018, so it will be sticking around through 2025 or so. Taurus is the sign of matter, of materialism, of values and it is the sensual side of Venus.

Uranus is the planet which represents the higher octave of Mercury. So it is all about intuition, ingenuity and creativity – Uranus definitely thinks outside-the-box. Uranus is all about liberation – the truth shall set you free. This is why it rules Aquarius. The truth is that when we take care of others, we are invariably benefiting ourselves. Aquarians know this innately, which is why they typically are more concerned with movements that benefit their neighbors, community or regions.

If you know astrology well, you know that Uranus exalts in Scorpio. The sign of exaltation is where the planet is very comfortable expressing its energy and manifestation. In Scorpio, we find a detective-like perseverance. Scorpio loves to get to the bottom of things. And with the intuitive and enhanced vision of Uranus manifesting through the strength, fortitude and resilience of Scorpio, it can produce great positive results!

Which brings us to Uranus in Taurus. This is where Uranus falls. It is opposite its exaltation. This is the sign where the planet feels a little out-of-sorts, contracted, a circular peg being hammered into a triangular hole as it were. Why is this?

Because Uranus is uncomfortable manifesting in the realm of matter. It would much rather put its intuition to solid use imagining better solutions, solving ahead-of-the-curve and outside-the-box problems and Uranus’ creativity is different from the sensual creativity of Taurus. Taureans love to create something tangible – “I made this pottery” or “look at that beautiful sculpture!” Uranus is all about the mad scientist creating innovative equations for solving the world’s energy crisis or discovering where the fashion trends will be 20 years from now. It can be quite intangible. There is a saying that Uranus’ vision is from 30,000 feet – like viewing things from an airplane, whereas Sagittarius views things from a moderately high mountain top. Uranus is the most visionary of all the energies.

How do we work positively with this current energy? Uranus in the home of Venus (which rules Taurus)?

Bear with me here… For starters, we must practice efficacious self care which begins the process of deeper embodiment. This is what Taurus is all about – can I be in my body? Can I sense further and deeper subtleties about being as a body? Maybe this looks like yoga (which you modify so you get enjoyment out of it). Maybe this is receiving regular bodywork – massage or craniosacral therapy for instance. Perhaps you prefer a regular Qigong or Tai Chi session. For others it is different kinds of stretching. Maybe it looks like dance or swimming… And then if we add meditation to this practice of self care, then we can start to unite these to uncomfortable energies.

Uranus is all about liberation from suffering, liberation from confusion, liberation from distorted emotions. But how do we discover these forms of liberation? Through working with a skillful practitioner or meditation teacher. Looking into an authentic spiritual practice or path – what do we feel a strong connection to? Working with the nervous system through Vagus nerve work or Somatic Experiencing can start the process of untying inner knots. Where do we find resource? Where do we actually move toward gradual progress and growth?

How can we both be in our body and in touch with Higher Selves? Easy – by going slow, being gentle, being kind, softening our edges and by putting the advice into play that I mention above – some form of physical self care (moving toward embodiment) blended with an efficacious spiritual practice (meditation would definitely help). We want to work to heal and resource and build resilience in our nervous system. Then we are speaking the language of Uranus – which along with Mercury rules the nervous system.

The only thing to mention is, if someone has a tendency to day dream, to check out, to numb out, to dissociate, then meditation for them might simply be a recapitulation of this pattern. They would do best working with a skillful bodyworker for a while – and Birth Process Work (PPN Work), Craniosacral Therapy and / or Vagus system work would be very beneficial.

Some of you dear readers may not want to hear this… but my Tibetan Lamas (sublime meditation teachers) have said that people who have extreme emotions or dysregulated nervous systems basically have a difficult time with meditation. When they go to meditate for instance, their paranoia (or anxiety or worries or dissociative tendencies) float right up to the surface. We have to settle our nervous systems first. Establish a solid foundation upon which to build the secure palace of a robust and resilient meditation practice! With all this said however, do attempt to meditate if you feel at all drawn to it! Saying aspirational prayers and setting powerful intentions will start the ball rolling in the right direction!

It is possible. But it will not happen overnight – this is why we go slowly, gradually building upon previous accomplishments. Allowing the body (and nervous system) to digest the work we are doing.

In conclusion, Uranus in Taurus can be a beautiful time of inner and outer work. It might even be a time of tangible creativity – where we get the best of both worlds! Visionary sculptures? We can work with both themes – tangible and intangible, the realms of visionary creative thought and being in our body. We can hopefully put Uranus’ vision and intuition to use best by tidying up our inner blockages and knots. When we start to connect on a regular basis with our Higher Self, then we will automatically get the best from our astrology chart. Whether a planet is exalting in a sign or falling! This is what Uranus demands from us – be in our truth, be in our power, be in our body and be in our intuitive centers.

Hello dear readers!

(By the way, this material is copyrighted by M. Kirby Moore. Please do not reproduce this work in any way without his permission. Thank you!)

This is a post about Spiritual Astrology (Yay! Finally! I have been discussing massage school a lot for the past ten weeks, and here is a post purely about an astrological concept).

I must begin with recommending that before you read on, please take several deep breaths… I want you to listen to this guided meditation to connect with your internal resources:

Having established some inner resources – specifically the Feet, Seat, Breath meditation, now it is appropriate to go on. I want people to have at least a bit of inner resources before reading on.

I had a great conversation with a gentleman from England recently and we got to talking about the Ascendant and why it has to do with new beginnings. In Timing Astrology, the Progressed chart (secondary progressions) shows how we shift and change from within. It is a very slow gradual process of growth and development which has some uncanny accuracy and parallels.

In this Progressed chat, whenever a planet is crossing the natal Ascendant, that can indicate a major shift or change is coming very soon. In fact, that is one way to rectify the birth time – if the Progressed Moon crosses the Ascendant and during that 3 month window, nothing is really shifting, there are no fresh starts, there is no impetus to make major changes, then the b/t might be off!

This is also true if the Progressed Sun crosses the Ascendant (which is much more rare than the Pr. Moon crossing it), this will also indicate large scale shifts as we move from the behind-the-scenes-psychic-dreamy-nebulous-shadowy-12th-house to the pioneering, adventuresome, more impulsive and more self-directed 1st house. In this case, the window of growth and change would easily be 3-5 years as the Pr. Sun only moves one degree per year. So again, if nothing occurred in that 3-5 year window, I would be very suspicious of that birth time.

As an aside, another way to rectify the birth chart is with the Progressed Ascendant. Let’s say someone has Uranus in their 2nd house. Somewhere in their 30’s or 40’s, the Pr Asc. would cross their Uranus. This is usually a major event! Sometime big and surprising nearly always comes about – it might be challenging or beneficial (depending on Uranus’ aspects in the natal chart, the house that Uranus rules – see where Aquarius is located – other beneficial transits at the time – look at Tr Jupiter or Pr Venus etc, etc), but it would always be a significant event and it is nearly always surprising and happens quick! If nothing like that happens during the 1 – 2 year window of Pr. Ascendant crossing Uranus, again, be very suspicious of that birth time – or be on the lookout for when that event happens! That will show how far off the birth time is.

Back to the main topic – the Natal Ascendant. Why this is a major indicator of new beginnings, fresh starts and rebirths? Whether new vehicles – cars or spiritual vehicles, new relationships (major Ascendant / Descendant association) or new directions in life, the Natal Ascendant often plays a large role in changes and new cycles.

I believe that one reason for this is due to the Natal Ascendant having so much to do with the actual conditions around the time of birth. And what is so important about our being born? Only one of the most important transitions and re-births of our lives! At that point, our astrology chart is set, we take our first breath as an air-breathing human, we literally have the cord cut from our mothers, we have often already decided at that point whether the world is a safe abundant loving place or not.

By the way, I am planning to teach Pre- and Perinatal Astrology and I will go into this concept very thoroughly in that setting. This is just a teaser for my planned upcoming classes! ūüôā

What does it mean that the Ascendant has to do with the time of birth? Here is an example, which I share with a caveat – Astrology is a complex topic to begin with, and then trying to predict what an aspect configuration will mean for someone in terms of their birth… well, it is nearly impossible: for instance Neptune conjunct the Ascendant can mean that significant amounts of pain meds were used in the birth such that energetic connection between mother and baby was disrupted and depending on what else is happening in that chart, that disruption might take years to repair (most new parents don’t know all the psycho-spiritual-emotional needs of babies and then how to repair them if interruption occurs). In this example, in addition to Neptune on the Ascendant, if other planets are there as well, then that can add yet another flavor to the birth dynamics. (It is very complicated!)

Why is the time of birth so important? In addition to the above, the manner of the birth and the manner of being welcomed into the world greatly influences our thoughts about how we grow our body. Think about the cultures that plan to receive a new spirit for a couple years, meditating for the song of the new individual, and then having the entire village sing their song when they are born. What would that be like? How would I have grown my body if I had been welcomed like that?!

As you can see, the Astrology Ascendant is quite an important section of the chart. Not only does it lay down the template for the rest of the chart (the astrological houses), but it also plays a roles in cycles of time – birth, re-birth, new beginnings and completions. It has a lot to do with our personalities, our relationships and our inherited health (for instance the beliefs, thought patterns, paradigms that affect our health over time).

And for Pre- and Perinatal Astrology, the Ascendant is a crucial area to cover. ūüôā

Thanks for reading!

I am having the time of my life here in December 2017. Not sure how, but I am getting a LOT done. Prepping for massage school upcoming in January – selling books, packing things, studying Ethics of Touch and Pathology, etc. On top of that I am still seeing about 5 – 8 clients a week and assisting with a Craniosacral Therapy class.

Let us pause for an integration break. So much done, and yet to do. It is good to check in with my deeper slower healing rhythms – to connect with an organic pace that allows me to differentiate past from present, now from worrying about the future. ūüôā

So as I productively go through each day, I am still doing Svaroopa Yoga each morning for about half an hour. My body gets to rest down, supported and relaxed. It is the perfect way to start my day.

And during this Yin Yoga, I still have fantasies of teaching PPN Astrology. I am slowly writing down those thoughts – perhaps in 8 or 9 months it will become a reality. One step at a time – I am heading down to Virginia Beach for a 10 day retreat around Christmas which will be incredibly rejuvenating – Qigong on the beach, meditation, Buddhist prayers, Zapchen somatics, Dream Work Play. Then I move out of my apartment. Next I drive out West for school. And that is about as far into the future as I want to plan for now!

But there are apparently these underlying currents which I tap into in the mornings on my yoga blanket. Currents which speak of resourcing, grounding, stabilizing groups of students so they can go on to deeper insights about their pre- and perinatal ages and stages.

Thank you for reading and please donate to my blogging efforts if you can!

I will be posting some amazing photos from Colorado as I will be close to 14K peaks, hot springs, desert dunes and sacred mountains. Yay!

The astrological interpretation of Venus in Virgo in the natal chart is often times less-than-positive.  Authors talk about the individual being critical of their partners, nagging and cold.  Some karmic astrologers even go so far as to say that Venus in Virgo is the sign of someone who has been less-than-loving in a past life (lives) and that debt is coming home now.  Of course, when criticism comes into the mind, loving-kindness generally departs swiftly, this is fairly obvious.  But how can we simply stop this deeply ingrained, crystal-clear yet critical gaze in its tracks?

With all this said however, what is guaranteed with Venus in Virgo?  Will the individual put off marriage (due to their seeing imperfections in potential partners)?

I would argue that like astrology in general, where I practice frequency-based astrology, people with Venus in Virgo are quite unique Рwe cannot place them all in one basket and hope that our interpretation will work out for the majority of them.  Frequency-based astrology says that we must determine the frequency of the individual (where they are spiritually, emotionally, maturity-wise, self-care wise, renunciation, etc) before we can paint an accurate picture of how their astrology chart reflects their lives.

I have found, at least here in the United States, that most of the time, Venus in Virgo is associated with a strong religious upbringing.¬† This could be a strong Catholic influence or it might be a strict Protestant environment.¬† However, this is not always the case.¬† When religion plays a role, Venus in Virgo is often joined by other planets in Virgo (or a strong 6th house stellium for instance). If I see three or more planets in Virgo though, I am almost always rewarded with a surprised answer when I say, “So your family was quite religious, right?” Yep, usually the case.

Sometimes Venus in Virgo comes with a strong familial heritage – I have several clients who were raised in tightly-knit immigrant families here in the United States.¬† In their culture of origin, there are a lot of ‚Äúshoulds‚ÄĚ about what a good girl does and does not do.¬† In these cases, religion has less to do with the strict Virgoan perceptions. But the inner critic is there nonetheless.

Comprehensive Natal Chart Interpretation

Kirby will spend 90 minutes interpreting your Natal Birth chart. You can chat about any area that you like. This includes printed charts and it also includes about 30 minutes of preparation time! These are typically done on the phone, via Skype or in person if you happen to be in Virginia, USA.

I believe that most people have the resources internally to change their minds.  Literally to transform their mental attitudes and patterns.  Now, as you can probably surmise, this is not exactly easy to do, nor is it going to be a fast process.

However, life does this for the large majority of us.  We put up enough resistance to necessary change that eventually we realize that the only thing causing us suffering is our resistance, and we begrudgingly shift our stance.

Likewise, people with Venus in Virgo can change their minds and melt any frozen tissue around their hearts, allowing in some openness, acceptance, and compassion – basically embracing the mystery which their Venus in Pisces cousins so easily put their faith in.

You name the topic (area of the chart) and we can dive in - these are some possible areas to look at: Timing Astrology, Relationship Astrology, Medical Astrology, Natal Astrology, Psychological Astrology. Keeping all of this in mind, two more things before we wrap up. First people with Venus in Virgo might be the late-comers to the relationship table as it were. These people might put off marriage or partnering for some time. Rarely – like Venus in Virgo in the 12th or 6th house rare – Venus in Virgo might prefer to be a recluse or live a hermit lifestyle. And even then it is not set in stone – look to the Moon’s Nodes for further information on this topic.

Second, it is possible for us to delve deeper below the conscious surface and to literally change our minds and our heats. See my previous posts about doing birth process work or Pre- and Perinatal Therapy or working with Double Binds. Once we start to ply apart the tangled web of inherited patterns and habits and assumptions from our ancestors (honoring them in the process), once we have the desire to heal our ancestral lineage and start working with a professional who has the skills to hold that type of container, then we can gain more equanimity or strengthen our loving-kindness and compassion to become a different person. I know it sounds kind of preposterous. But I have done it. Where I was fifteen years ago, and where I am today – people from my high school do not recognize me; it is literally a night and day change.

Working with legitimate heart teachers can change us for the better, and drastically change us. We can become more resilient, clearer, more articulate about our needs, etc. We can fully embrace our inheritance as human beings. ūüôā

So if you have Venus in Virgo, don’t fret. Find an authentic spiritual teacher or a spiritual (religious) lineage that you resonate with and start doing some practice. Work to melt any icy areas around your heart. Forgive yourself, your parents, grieve anything that was left incomplete, etc. And if your karma (frequency) is positive enough, then you have nothing to worry about. The colder more critical side of Virgo may have transformed to come out through service and generosity and loving-kindness.

Thank you for reading!

Astronomically, Pluto has been disparaged, dropped from the ranks of planet-hood and I suspect this reflects our society’s discomfort with Plutonian material.

What is Plutonian material? ¬†What is Pluto’s influence in the astrology chart? ¬†What is his rulership?

Pluto is the power behind the throne. ¬†Pluto is one of the four power-hungry planets in the pantheon of the solar system – along with Saturn, the Sun and Mars. ¬†For the most part, these planets are associated with the Fixed signs, which are also known as the Serpent Signs – Aquarius (Saturn’s previous rulership), Scorpio (Pluto’s present and Mar’s previous), Leo (the Sun) and Taurus is not exactly represented as Venus, its present ruler does not “seek” power but understands that true power lies in practicing abundant generosity and kindness and that when we love something or someone fully and maintain a low position (humility), then we have all the “power” that we need. ¬†But more on Venus in a bit. ¬†So Pluto seeks typically seeks power because of some mysterious unconscious yearning. ¬†How it goes about that is indicated by the rest of the astrology chart.

What does Pluto do in the astrology chart?  Well we are talking about the ruler of the most complex sign in the zodiac (Scorpio), so this must be a complex answer.  But to over simplify things for the moment, I am going to write about the ways that Pluto amplifies whatever he touches.

Stepping off topic one more time… ¬†Above I mention how our society might be hesitant (at best) to delve into Pluto’s material, well I want to remind people that esoterically, Pluto rules both the best of the light (wisdom, personal integrity, and compassion) and the worst of the darkness (polluted swamps of the unconscious). ¬†I suspect Pluto has gotten a bad reputation – being discovered around the time of the atom bomb’s revelation, I think some people see a poor Pluto aspect and naturally cringe. ¬†But that is not necessary. ¬†Pluto is a binary planet system – Charon, a large moon of Pluto orbits it and from an esoteric perspective, this dual system gives Pluto rulership over the swampy depths of the psyche AND once we purify and come to a deep visceral understanding of who we are and what true power is, then Pluto is transformed like the phoenix (one of Scorpio’s symbols) into Minerva, the goddess of wisdom and healing.

Pluto’s constipating effects come about when we do not acknowledge who we are. ¬†When we suppress our natural urges and healthy desires, due to upbringing, societal pressures, or whatever, we are pushing Pluto deeper into our subconscious. ¬†And if we know our mythology, then we know that Pluto tends to erupt violently onto the scene, and this is certainly possible if we try to bottle up our powerful emotions for too long. ¬†Eventually something is going to snap. ¬†So it is best to get clearer about our needs and feelings now, rather than waiting to see how Pluto might manifest in his shadowy manner. ¬†But we can never blame Pluto – rather he is a reflection of our psyche and our natural predispositions.

So why does Pluto tend to amplify aspects of our chart?  And keep in mind, depending on our karma, like I mention above, this amplification is oftentimes positive.  If we have poor predispositions in our unconscious, then these negative habits could be amplified just as easily.

(By the way, I am going to over-simplify these definitions below. ¬†Therefore, do not read your chart and then say, “Oh my God! ¬†I don’t fit on that hyper-polarized spectrum.” ¬†Right. ¬†There is a lot of gray area that I am not able to describe in such a short blog post. ¬†You might want to call or email me to set up an astrology interpretation if you have questions about your astrological Pluto. ¬†I consider myself quite knowledgeable on the subject.)

Pluto and the Sun: Here is one combination of two of the power-grasping giants that I touched on above. ¬†The Sun is the overt, natural leader in Leo. ¬†At its best, these aspects tend to amplify the Sun’s natural leadership abilities. ¬†It increases ambition, a desire for recognition and our innate authority. ¬†At its worst, it can make someone despotic and power-hungry, stooping to great depths to undermine opponents and competitors. ¬†You must look at the rest of the chart to see how and where this authority and power extend (in Cancer it might be the head of a powerful family, in Capricorn it might be an ambitious CEO and in Scorpio, it would be an altogether different animal). ¬†ūüôā

Pluto and the Moon: Here we have the lunar domain of the emotions and non-physical energies (psychic abilities, intuition, dreams, etc). ¬†When Pluto and the Moon get together, it can be over-sensitivity (depending on the sign), emotional reactiveness AND/OR it can be emotional understanding and awareness. ¬†It could be extremes in the way we express our feelings AND/OR an innate psychic ability. ¬†If we delve through our neuroses and traumas, we can discover that Pluto’s influence on the Moon can be an emotional anchor in an uncertain world. ¬†We can read people with an uncanny gut feeling and we can express our feelings with such ease and grace that others marvel at this skillful ability. ¬†Of course the signs and houses involved matter a lot and the rest of the chart will indicate how far along we are on a psychological understand (or in our karmic evolution).

Pluto and Mercury: ¬†Here is the god of communication – the link between the head and the heart. ¬†So what you must ask yourself here is – does Pluto clear up that connection or sully those waters. ¬†At its best, this is someone whose mental clarity and cogency is unparalleled – a great investigator, researcher and scientist (possibly). ¬†This person would be a great teacher and a magnificent orator. ¬†On the flip side, Pluto here can indicate mental confusion. ¬†It can amplify the worst of Mercury’s qualities – impulsiveness, impatience and irritability. ¬†There is the possibility that Pluto in a hard aspect to Mercury is indicative of early trauma and this in turn would gear up that native’s nervous system to no end. ¬†Of course, whenever Pluto (who is strongly associated with the reproductive organs and sexual expression) is involved, we might consider skillfully inquiring about early trauma. ¬†[Disclaimer – if you do not have seriously refined skills in dealing with early trauma, then it might be best to avoid the subject and let a professional handle it.]

Pluto and Venus:  As I mentioned above, Pluto can be in its lower manifestations or in his higher karmically-refined emanation as Minerva.  It is important to know which is the dominant force when dealing with any Pluto aspects, but no where is it more apparent than when perceiving Pluto / Venus contacts.  This is the person who could (rarely) be the saint who understands that we can love something without grasping at it (love without attachment is a beautiful thing!  Watch videos of great Tibetan lamas like Garchen Rinpoche if you want an example of this).  We can give love even to those people who spurn and reject it.  We can rest in equanimity and practice kindness toward all we come in contact with Рnot judging anyone.  But who am I kidding?  That kind of saint is very difficult to find.  Rather, Pluto can indicate that this individual is lustful, possessive and/or jealous.  Pluto and Venus is where some people tie power with sex.  And what is the best way to do this?  By connecting money and sex Рhave you ever seen the older wealthy oligarch who has a trophy wife at least 30 Р40 years younger than he is?  It happens.

I would personally recommend that one adopts an authentic spiritual practice though where we can start to get an understanding of our inner machinations.  Then, over time (in my experience, nothing comes lightning-quick), we can start to dispel inner delusions and mis-understandings and build in more loving-kindness and appropriate compassion.  But it must start with the self.  If we find ourselves grasping and clinging to someone or something, there is the obvious possibility that Pluto and Venus are working together (maybe manifesting an early, unmet childhood need) in a challenging manner.

Pluto and Mars: Here again we have a meeting of two of the power-hungry planets.  But as we all know, Mars rarely ever wins out in his hunt for power and hegemony.  Why?  Because he seeks to forcefully get people to do his will.  And this requires a lot of time and energy and supervision.  This is why Venus and Neptune are the innately powerful energies in the world Рthey are humble, understanding, generous, graceful and compassionate.  Be like water my friends (Bruce Lee), be like water.

When Pluto and Mars get together, we must be very careful and very wise about how we handle this powerful combination. ¬†There will most likely be a LOT of energy expressed. ¬†This is the person who is naturally gifted in athletics or as a soldier. ¬†They are very hard workers and they can have great physical endurance. ¬†There will be a strong discontent with the status quo – so again, are we looking at a Kali-like destroyer (lower manifestation), or are we looking at a reformer and passionate, non-violent activist working with Minerva’s guidance? ¬†Most often you will wonder about this native’s forceful ways and powerful animistic energies – this person generally does not enjoy being told “No.” ¬†Mars’ impulsiveness might occasionally emerge and there could be emotional storms, irrational displays of anger and irritability. ¬†At its best however, this is the person who is striving every day, every week to know themselves better – whether through depth psychology, a ton of reading and introspection, working with a spiritual teacher or through process-oriented bodywork. ¬†This would be the person who has come a LONG way in transforming their inner desires and passions.

I am going to pause here as this post is getting quite long!  Thank you for reading and let me know if you have any questions.
