Opening to channel, moving toward completion

As I wrote in a previous stream of posts, I have slowly been working with the book “Opening to Channel” by Sanaya Roman.  This is a very safe, gradual and potent approach to the subject of channeling as I have mentioned.  However, I wanted to post my experience from early January when I went through some of the final exercises in the book.

Below you will find a recording of me describing what occurred when I completed one exercise in particular.  It was pretty amazing!  Unfortunately, these days I am working a lot, and seeing clients on the side and prepping for graduate school in California (where I will move in August).  So I don’t have much extra time, if any at all.  Therefore, this little post and recording will have to suffice for the moment.  I hope it brings some modest benefit to others.

I have not actually started channeling yet.  However, I am getting glimpses of that possibility as my guide works to strengthen our connection (and my faith and confidence).  Plus I am having clearer and clearer experiences when working with certain crystals.

Thanks for reading!

Birth Process Workshop

Just a quick update here.

Next week I am starting a birth process workshop with a wonderful group led by Myrna Martin.  I have heard these are extremely potent as each person will have the chance to be re-born (go back through the big blue “birth” tunnel) and we will have at least three hours each to process whatever arises as we “re-experience” birthing.

Actually, I have been working so much (hence the lack of posts), that I am really looking forward to the reprieve.  I will have five days off of work, with four of those taken up with birth processing.  Whoof!  It has been a full few months for me.

Are you noticing that too?  It seems like the wisdom beings and guides are extremely active right now, providing support and wisdom for anyone who asks for it, which can also provoke and cultivate positive growth and change.  Wowsers!

I will probably report on my experience of the process workshop.

Until soon!

Prior to Losar: Purification Time

This material is copyrighted by M Kirby Moore.  Reproduction without permission is prohibited.  Thank you for visiting!

February 10th, 2013 is the Chinese and Tibetan New Year.  I do not know much about the Chinese New Year rituals, but I will mention what little I know about the Tibetan practices.

Losar (“Lo” is Year and “Sar pa” is New), so Losar is the New Year.  First of all, the 10 days prior to Losar are considered a time for cleaning and purification.  Many people (Tibetans especially) spend these days cleaning their homes inside and out and hanging new prayer flags.  Also, they purchase new clothes in preparation for the New Year celebrations.  These tens days are called Don (Tone – Wylie spelling is bton), at least I think as I cannot find a lot of info on this.  I learned about it from one of my Tibetan language teachers who had been a monk in Nepal.

For some people, the Don period is a time for doing significant Dharma protector practice or Vajrasattva practice as these practices can produce an auspicious new year and / or purify the old stuff and prepare the way for a productive future.

Then, I think in response to the ten day period, the ten days after Losar are considered extraordinarily auspicious as these are the days which celebrate the ten days of miracles when the Buddha supposedly defeated many sorcerers and local priests in contests of miracles.  From what I have heard, the second best practitioner was only able to keep up with five miracles compared to the Buddha’s ten.

So these days of purification and clean up time starts today (January 31st) and they will end on the eve of February 10th.  This is a time to try to be as virtuous as possible and if you know any practices for purification, then you can do these (if you want or feel the need).  Also, if nothing else, this is a good time to clean house, as some days it is too cold to enjoy doing anything out of doors.

Lord Jigten Sumgon’s promise – Mahakala – crows – event when receiving bodywork and mentioning the connection to the Lama

This was a full day for me. I bought a new car, which considering my history of ascetic thriftiness, is a big change. It’s a Corolla, so relatively cheap, reliable and good gas mileage. But I received a very obvious and auspicious sign this morning, prior to visiting the Toyota dealer, while I was receiving bodywork.

I was receiving from Jackie Emm, who is a very skilled and competent bodywork practitioner on top of having a soothing and healing presence and a soft, kind heart. Anyway, we started talking about Buddhism, and because we recently experienced the passing of a mutual friend, we spoke of Buddhism’s thoughts on death.

Let me pause a second for context and say that I have a connection with a Buddhist protector known as Mahakala (who has a connections with graveyards, death and transformation) and I have read that one of Mahakala’s symbols is the crow or raven. In Tibetan, Mahakala is known as the Great Black One (as I’m not sure if there is a word for midnight blue), so it seems fitting that Mahakala’s bird would be black and have to do with death and transformation.

With that said, Jackie was doing some energy work with my heart as I told her, “it is good you have a connection with Janet [Evergreen – another dedicated Buddhist practitioner] and I.”

“Why?” She answered. I have established a solid, trusting professional friendship with Jackie, so I felt it was okay to share what I am about to say next:

I said, “because if you have a strong connection with a serious Dharma practitioner, then you can think of that person at the time of your death. And due to their connection with authentic root and lineage lamas, you will be protected on your journey after you die.” And I am not joking here, as I finished saying this, a large crow flared its wings right outside the window as it flew by and I said, “the Dharma protectors are here.” And then the crow landed on the lamp post outside the other window and proceeded to caw toward us. I mentioned, more to myself than her, “Mahakala is right there!”

Considering Jackie had been really close with our friend who passed away, she admitted that she had asked for a sign as well. And, personally, I suspect Jackie is an old soul and a secret Bodhisattva. So the protectors revealed themselves, whatever the reason. And I had a great treatment as usual.

Opening to Channel, pt. 4

This material is copyrighted by M. Kirby Moore.  Reproduction without permission is prohibited.  Thank you for visiting!

As I mentioned in previous posts on this topic, I have been working with the book “Opening to Channel” by Sanaya Roman.  This is a potent book which can be a great resource if you are ready and willing and committed to open to growth-0riented transformation.  In previous posts, which I would recommend you go back and read if you have not already, I mention a bit of an introduction to channeling and to this book in particular.

After having introduced who the guides are, what channeling looks and feels like, in chapters six through ten, the authors next introduce exercises to move toward channeling.  I was pleasantly surprised by the effects of these meditations.  For instance, the first meditation is one that I skipped due to my personal meditation practice (I have been doing Tibetan Buddhism meditation techniques since 2005).  But I would definitely recommend it for anyone who does not have much experience with meditation or mindfulness.

Then the next meditation is called “Holding a Focus and Concentration.”  I did this meditation once and I was again surprised because it felt a little like some metta-loving-kindness meditations I have done with Buddhist teachers.  In this meditation you focus on one positive quality which you would like to bring more into your life – for instance love, compassion, joy or peace.  Then they guide you through the process of sitting with it, asking poignant questions about what your life would look like with more of that quality in abundance and then they coach you through feeling it.  Quite potent, so they only recommend starting out with five minute segments.

Having my previous experience with meditation, I was not blown away yet by any of the meditations introduced in the book up to this point.  And actually, at first I skipped over the next meditation (in error, thinking it was petty).  Then after talking with a friend who channels, they said that I should definitely give it a try.  The meditation is called “Attuning with Life Force Energy.”  In this meditation, you sit for a while, get calm and centered.  Then when you are ready, you pick up a crystal and just sit with it for a few minutes.  You sense into the crystal, attempting to get a response or an impression from doing so.  Once you have tried for a while or once you receive impressions, you pause, take a rest and then you do the same thing again with another crystal.  They recommend trying it with an amethyst and a quartz.

This is where I started to be amazed.  Yes, I have been trained as a scientist believe it or not.  So the empirical part of me baulked at communicating with a crystal – seriously??  But sure enough, once I quieted my mind and my heart, I definitely got a response from the amethyst.  It told me I was holding it too tight.  And yes, that information came to me as quite a surprise!  Then it told me that in future sessions together it would tell me who and what it specialized in healing.  Again, further information that I did not expect.  I have known for some time that amethyst is considered by many cultures as having healing qualities, but to communicate directly with a deep, dark purple crystal?  Wow!

When I tried this exercise with the quartz crystal, I did not get such a direct message, but I definitely understood that the quartz was a type of recording device.  It indicated that if I put a quartz crystal in a room, I can get a sense of what has been happening around the crystal by connecting with it later.

The next exercise is called “Trance Posture and Position.”  I am not a fan of the word “trance” in this context.  I think it connotes a loss of consciousness.  But this is not true in the least.  For me, I did this meditation and I was amazed at what I experienced – it felt about as good as any Mahamudra meditation (spaciousness) I had done up to that point.  And in my “trance,” I stayed present in my body and in my consciousness.  And by this point, one is getting closer to channeling.

I would recommend that if you have difficulty with any of these exercises that you take your time with them.  Try them again a few days later.  Give yourself time to rest.  For me, I think I may have had a bit of a leg up – especially considering I have encountered the guides and light-beings in the past when I had my appendectomy surgery.  Plus I have been meditating for quite some time now.  And to top this off, in 2003 and 2004, I explored shamanic journeying and I experienced very easy rapid results from journeying down into my lower world.

I do want to be explicitly clear here though.  I do not equate channeling one’s guides with shamanic journeying.  For me, they are incredibly different – almost completely.  When we do a shamanic journey, we do not know who is going to show up.  Sure, we can intend to work with high guides or with guides who want to benefit of and others.  And yes, we may even attract a higher guide.  But how can we know that this is the guide with whom we made our plan before we took incarnation?  For me, shamanic journeying was insightful and fantastical, but it was not as empowering as I find working directly with my higher guide(s) to be.

I will pause here and continue soon with the next exercises from the book and with my responses to them.

Thank you for reading!

Opening to Channel, pt. 3, continued intro

This material is copyrighted by M. Kirby Moore.  Reproduction without permission is prohibited.  Thank you for visiting!

If you are starting out with this page, please go back and read the previous two posts as I introduce my personal process of wrapping my head around the concept of channeling.  You will get more background information that way.  Enjoy!

So up to this point I have introduced the topic of channeling one’s guides.  And I have explored my personal hang-ups with channeling.  And I am continuing to gradually work through the material.  So now I will start to get into the book and my personal process with doing the exercises described within its marvelous covers.

The book “Opening to Channel” by Sanaya Roman is quite a positive and potentially life-changing resource.  At first, I noticed great reserves of resistance and fear around the idea of working with my guides, but now I am slowly coming around to the possibility that I might just be able to do it!

What are some of those fears I noticed?  Well, easy.  I was worried that I would be “taken over” by a guide and I would forget everything from the session.  This idea of loss of control is incredibly scary to me.  But thankfully in the first few chapters of the book, Roman and fellow author Duane Packer, dispel many fears and mistaken beliefs around the concept of channeling.  I was also worried that working with high-frequency guides would lead to my health starting to become frail or to unravel because I do not like the idea of a huge disparity between frequencies passing through my body.  As an analogy, think about life as most of us know it, to be like walking around our environs and the worst shock we ever experience to be like shuffling your feet on a thick carpet on a dry winter day – you can generate a painful spark and shock just using static electricity right?  Well, I figured that channeling must be like sticking a metal crowbar into a high-voltage transfer station – not quite getting struck by lightening – but definitely enough to permanently change your world.  Was I right?  Nope.

Like I was saying, in the first five chapters, Roman and Packer unpack what exactly it means to channel a high-frequency, loving, compassionate guide.  And do you know one of the things that sold me on the work?  As I was reading the channeled section of the book (Roman and Packer channeled much of the meaty portions of the book), their guides said that if you are working with a higher guide, then that guide should always wish you unconditional love, compassion, joy and peace.  And guess what the four immeasurables are in Buddhism?  Loving-kindness, skillful compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity without indifference.  I was sold!

In the first five chapters, the authors cover, who are the guides?, what is channeling?, what is conscious channeling?, what is channeling in trance?, what does channeling look like?, what is the difference between a high-frequency guide and a lower entity?, etc.  They effectively dispel many mistaken beliefs right there in the first few chapters.  And thank goodness, or someone like me would put the book down!

Then they cover the getting ready to channel material.  And I think this is where I will take a break for today (three posts might be enough for now).  In my next post, I will describe my experience of going through their exercises for this potentially life-altering material.

Opening to Channel, pt 2 – why channel?

This material is copyrighted by M. Kirby Moore.  Reproduction without permission is prohibited.  Thank you for visiting!

So in my previous post introducing this topic, I mention that I might be a bit of a pioneer.  However, I do want to assure my readers that I do actually have one friend who acts as a bit of a mentor when it comes to channeling.  He even has experience with process-oriented emotional healing and energetic healing as he graduated from the Barbara Brennan school and he does Pathwork process work.  Anyway…  Why would I want to channel in the first place?

I already have quite an established Buddhist practice.  Even if my dedication waxes and wanes, I tend to come back to at least a once a week serious practice session.  Plus I have been working with Tibetan Buddhist teachers and lamas since 2005, so hopefully some of their wisdom has rubbed off on me.  Although, judging from days when I am really stressed and stretched, I have light years of work ahead of me!

Considering I am already intuitive, and I work with Western (and Spiritual) Astrology and I have cultivated a relationship with the I Ching, why would I want to add another layer of intuition?

Well this same friend from above said it best.  When we raise our frequency to a certain point (above any commonplace human wisdom – so I am talking about going up to frequencies where light-beings and angels “reside”), we are immersed in wisdom.  And if I am presently light years away from attaining any kind of meditative realization or enlightenment, why would I baulk at the idea of incorporating additional wisdom into my life?

And if you are a religious practitioner, you might have at least one or two rigid beliefs left in your body-mind (I sure do!), and you might be wondering, “Kirby, how the hell can you continue to call yourself Buddhist and start to work with non-Buddhist wisdom beings at the same time?”  Well honestly I don’t know the complete answer to this question.  However, I do believe it is these same Buddhist wisdom beings who support me and contribute to my budding intuition, so if they are directing me to work directly with my guides, then by all means, it would be a disservice for me to rigidly turn them down!  Yes I have taken refuge in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, but I have been expanding the definition of Sangha over the past year (unconditional loving support is hard to find, so if it happens to arise from non-Buddhist sources and it truly feeds and nourishes you, then you should definitely stick with that community!!!).  And yes I ask the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to bring myself and all beings under their protection on a daily basis.  But I also believe that to expand myself and to grow faster, I need some kind of direct guidance from any source who is wiser than I.  And I will take any beings who are of the light and who want all beings to grow and mature and to benefit human-kind across the board.

So that is my rant against anyone whose rigid beliefs tell me I should not be attempting what I am describing in later posts.  And guess who my toughest critic is?  Yep – me!  🙂

Therefore, I am continuing on my path of self-knowledge and again I will take advice from any being who has a broader, wiser perspective than I do.  And considering I am stuck at present in a human body (sometimes even joyfully!), and considering that at present the average human on this planet is at an extremely dense, materialistic frequency, I will gladly ask from assistance from higher-frequency beings.

Opening to Channel, intro

If you happen to be a Buddhist practitioner, or have been raised in a religious conservative family, this subject matter might raise ambiguous or negative mental reactions.  However, I will explain how the past eight weeks for me have included at least one day a week of working through the book, “Opening to Channel” by Sanaya Roman.  I am also going to explain how I came to be working through this material.  🙂

If you had asked me twelve years ago, or more, if I would be pursuing the ability to channel high-frequency guides and light-beings, I would have told you promptly to go to hell.  Because that was where I thought I would be going if I continued down that path.  I could easily write two or three books about the bazillion different ways I have changed since then, but to keep this on topic and succinct…

I now know that one only goes to a (relatively temporary) hell realm if one commits horrendous actions.  So I no longer have that irrational fear (this religiously imposed, conditioned belief that I might arbitrarily go to hell for having a wrong belief is now gone from my repertoire as it were).  But when a friend of mine mentioned back in November that I should consider channeling my guides, I still encountered stiff inner opposition and resistance.  I still had to work through layers of fear, false beliefs and some conditioning around the topic of channeling.

Nonetheless, I wanted to give it a try because something in my life felt missing or I felt a literal or figurative vacuum in my heart which could only be filled by something on a spiritual dimension.  And this was after years of doing Buddhist retreats, meditation and practice.  So I knew I needed something potent and efficacious!

So I went ahead and bought the book.  Honestly it took at least two weeks to convince myself that it was worth a try.  In other words, this process has not been entirely easy for me.

Anyway, I bought the book and started reading from the beginning.  I have a tendency to try to read books from beginning to end.  Rarely do I skip to the juicy sections.  I think I like to “do it right.”  And in this case, I tried reading from left to right, but eventually I would listen to my guidance and I did skip around a little.  More on that exact process in a later post.

For now however, I need to share a little bit of back ground info.  Yes, I will attempt to keep this short and sweet, but you can imagine that to go from being grossly averse to the possibility of channeling, to be thoroughly exploring and attempting it on a weekly basis is quite a turnaround.  So I need to explain a little about this initial process.

First of all, back in 2002, I had my appendix removed.  I knew at that point that I might have some kind of relatively unique intuition, but it kind of frightened me, when I had a dream that told me explicitly that I had “appendicitis” and that I needed to go to a doctor about it.  Then, during the surgery, the doctors had to stop my heart as I was put on life support (which prevented obvious brain damage).  When I was told about this later on, despite my recovering from surgery on morphine (and dreaming about rainbows and butterflies as a result), I knew there was a red flag when he told me that fact.  But I did not realize the full extent of what had happened to me when my heart was stopped.

It took 3 years, almost to the day, for me to start having dreams about what had happened in that operating room.  Here I was, nearly completely divorced from anything alternative or outside of mainstream knowledge, having dreams about having been out of my body, among light-wisdom-beings and then being urged quite forcefully back into my body which had been lying prone on an operating table.  Needless to say, these dreams shook me up a little (back in 2005 when they occurred).  It took several months for me to put two and two together and realize that I was dreaming about the surgery which took place in March of 2002.

Anyway, I share this brief anecdote because it is these same loving light beings and guides who I am starting to work with now.  Back in 2002, I did not have a choice in the matter.  I was a young man (at least in age and in body development, certainly not yet in maturity) who had been put under anesthesia and suddenly I am out of my body, loving life and not wanting to re-enter my body.  But I did wake up in my human body and tried to sort things out.

Obviously my life started changing in wonderfully alternative and frequency-heightening ways, but the process to go from parroting your parents’ Christian right views to sitting on a meditation cushion doing Buddhist meditations and interpreting astrology charts is not always easy or comfortable.  And most of this journey I have had to feel through myself, because let me tell you, it is the extraordinarily rare teacher or mentor who practices emotional healing, process-oriented bodywork, spiritual astrology, Tibetan Buddhism and now to add to this list, channeling his / her guides.  In some ways, I see myself as a bit of a pioneer – and I am still on my journey of self-discovery and empowerment as I blindly navigate the waters of channeling my guides.

Hello, yes, every once in a while, I will post something gratuitously commercial.  However, in this case, these books and other products which I recommend on my amazon store are awesome!

I just updated my Amazon Store to include a category on Somatic Therapy books – which should also be called books on understanding early trauma and how to heal it.  The titles do not allow for such comprehensive descriptions.  But check it out (link on the right).

For instance, the book, “Scared Sick” details an enormous peer-reviewed, empirical study done by the Kaiser Insurance group where they discovered a significant correlation between early childhood (and infant) trauma and the occurrence of inflammatory diseases later on in life.  Then the authors go on to discuss this study’s results and other strong correlations to the health impacts of early trauma.  An awesome read which I highly recommend.  And you should buy it from my Amazon store (see link to the right).

Or another great read, for anyone dedicated to healing or at least understanding their healing process is the book “Healing Developmental Trauma.”  This and other great reads are available in my store.

If you want a fascinating read about the “science” of reincarnation, read “Old Souls” by Tom Shroder (illuminating the evidence from psychiatrist Ian Stevenson).  This is on page 7 of the sublime books category in my store.  This is especially fascinating because Dr. Stevenson did most of this research while employed at the University of Virginia (a very conservative school to say the least).  It is amazing how many little alternative research projects are on-going,even in traditional, conservative establishments!

I have a private practice in Charlottesville where I offer healing facilitation including working with the polyvaggal system (healing the central nervous system), Craniosacral Biodynamics as well as offering Spiritual Astrology interpretations both in person and over the phone.

If you have any comments for my blog or my amazon store, please let me know.

More about astrology to follow very very soon!

Thanks for reading.  ~Kirby
