Sacred experiences on Oahu, Hawaii

Hello Readers,

I am currently on my honeymoon in Hawaii! It is exciting, and fun, and great to see Hawaii through my wife’s eyes. I was born here on Oahu and spent many years growing up and then summers on the island as well. It has also been a lot of processing stuff as some of those early years were challenging for me. I am so grateful that I can discuss and get support from Jessica (my wife) around these things.

We recently went up to Waimea Valley, on Oahu, Hawaii. They have local (and Hawaiian) artisans in various spots as you walk up the valley. One Hawaiian man talked to us about how to weave Ti (Ki) leaves together into a rope or lei or hanging decoration. Then he started talking about the Hawaiian monarchy and how the Hawaiians have elected a secret king. It was interesting how open he was to discuss topics bordering on succession, but nothing new to Hawaii. He even mentioned that the U.S. owes Hawaii 130 years of rent and that there are cases before the Hague court about it.

I am mentioning this to set the context for our next conversation. We forgot something at the car, so I went back for it. Then passing the same artisan (Hawaiian man), I made a choice: I decided I would mention that I occasionally have visions. I mentioned that I have some Native American blood in me and that I have the second sight. And if an area is very sacred, I will often have dreams or other metaphysical experiences around it.

Well he didn’t miss a beat. It was like I was speaking his language. He said, Waimea Valley is a portal. Many indigenous people come there to commune with mother nature. And many people have experiences there. In fact, he said the waterfall was very sacred and healing. He said to hold an intention in my heart as I walked up the valley, and to make certain I was clear about the question that I wanted to have answered. Try to stay mindful he said. But it sounded like being in the valley was like walking side-by-side with mother earth. He said that if she didn’t want you there, you would probably feel sick. He mentioned that some people are not able to make the entire walk up the valley to the falls because mother earth is kicking them out.

So that happened! I was pleasantly surprised and yet not. I held an intention in mind, I had one or two questions I wanted deeper answers to, and I shared this with my wife, who thankfully is very open to these kinds of things.

And sure enough, the waterfalls definitely felt pretty special. The water was cold – really cold! But being under the falls and then being pulled away from them by the current was wild and so worth it.

If you are on Oahu, you should visit Waimea Falls. Just do so with a sense of reverence and humility. It is sacred ground that you are treading on! Who knows though, you might get that answer you have been seeking for months.

Trauma Informed Astrology Training

I am excited to announce that we are working on the courses for a six-month, in-depth, insight-filled training. It will be called the Trauma Informed Astrology Essentials Package. It will cover a lot of great material, see below!

We are blessed to have Drupon Thinley Ningpo return to Charlottesville. He is the Spiritual Director of the Drong Ngur Jangchubling Dharma Center in Tampa, Florida. Drupon Rinpoche is an authentic Tibetan Lama, having completed his traditional three-year retreat in 1997. In the year 1999, he was given the title “Drupon” by His Holiness, Chetsang Rinpoche. Drupon means “retreat master” or “master of spiritual accomplishment”. He travels extensively, enthusiastically giving teachings and leading retreats around North America and India.

April 25th, Thursday evening:

What It Means to Take Refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha

Rinpoche will give teachings on the benefits of taking refuge in the Buddha, Dharma, and the Sangha, the Three Jewels in Buddhism. He will discuss and answer questions about what it means to go for refuge. If there is enough interest, he will do a brief refuge ceremony.

It is possible that participants may want time to contemplate the decision to take refuge. If so, there may be an opportunity on Saturday (4/27), or another time when Rinpoche comes to town or with another teacher.

Suggested donation: $25, $15 for students; No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.


April 26th, Friday evening):

The King of Lapis Lazuli Light, the Medicine Buddha Commentary & Discussion

Rinpoche will give a commentary on Medicine Buddha practice. He will discuss its benefits, good times to do the practice, and give a commentary on the Medicine Buddha mantra. He will answer questions about the Medicine Buddha empowerment (which he will give the following day).

This would be a great time to attend Rinpoche’s teachings, to meet him and see if you want to attend and receive the Medicine Buddha empowerment on Saturday.

The Medicine Buddha is a great practice for Healers of all varieties, including Nurses, Psychotherapists, Mental Health Counselors, Bodyworkers, and Energy Workers. Engaging in the Medicine Buddha practice with faith and devotion can increase your skills as a healer.

The Medicine Buddha Empowerment & Mantra Transmission

Drupon Rinpoche will bestow the Medicine Buddha empowerment. Participants may take it as a blessing or as a commitment to engage in the practice. Rinpoche will give the transmission for the Medicine Buddha mantra. And he will discuss the benefits of reciting the mantra. The Medicine Buddha is also known as the King of Lapis Lazuli Light. Practicing the Medicine Buddha brings many benefits.

Wisdom Healing Arts (my bodywork practice) News

In my bodywork practice:

This might sound like a cliche… in trauma resolution and birth process work, we talk about “the slower you go, the faster you will get there.” This is becoming true in my bodywork and healing practice. I primarily do emotional-process-oriented bodywork. This means I incorporate Craniosacral Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Integral Somatic Psychology, and Birth Process Work, along with some energy healing and the rare massage or foot reflexology thrown in for good measure.

I love what I do! I love benefiting my clients. My work is radically gentle. And yet, for my clients, being seen and heard, feeling unconditional positive regard, having time and space for all of their parts (little ones, young parts, baby selves, rebellious teenager parts, etc) leads to powerful healing.

I love to watch the transformation in my clients, from initially feeling stuck and then to moving through that stuck energy or issue. I get a number of great testimonials each month, like, “I don’t know how, but I am moving through these two stuck areas and I have only seen you three times! Your work is so powerful yet gentle.”

Transforming stuck energy is possible. Transforming stuck emotion is possible. And I am deeply grateful to have learned this rare and potent healing wisdom over the past twelve years.

This is my main work at the moment – showing people that their nervous systems actually want to heal, and then leading them through the process of healing themselves. This is a profound and rare gift. I have a set of tools under my belt which is rare and difficult to find (in the same practitioner).

I do a lot of my healing work in the subtle energy body. Healing trauma is much easier if the subtle energy and the subtle elements are flowing and open. Without this underlying foundation, energy literally has a hard time moving and transforming.

I hold big space for Source connection. I lean into big spaciousness when I make contact with a client. And they feel this unusual approach. I really don’t have an agenda – I just want my clients to be happy and to move toward Health as quickly as appropriate.

This Source connection is the Ground of Existence. It is the reality which is true behind all the illusions of duality and separateness we grasp onto so tightly.

It is this Ground I refer to when I say, “More Ground, Less Effort”

I love that my clients (and myself) can experience, “More Being, Less Doing”

Exciting Announcement & Astrology Project Update

Hello Dear Ones,

I am writing to update you on several things. First, I am getting married! This is exciting! And then I will mention a couple things about the Trauma Informed Astrology video recordings and my bodywork practice.

Jessica Eure and I are getting married. We have a precious relationship – we have known each other for 20 years, and been friends for the last 10 of those. We are truly marrying our best friend. I love that even if I am irritated by her as romantic partner (which happens on a rare occasion), I still love and cherish her as a friend. I am so appreciative of all her support and caring, and we are very happy to be joining each other’s families.

We are going on an epic honeymoon in late January (to Hawaii). It will be great to show Jess my birthplace and a couple of islands!

This is great news. I hope you will rejoice with us. May all people have loving and supportive relationships in their lives!

Now, on to the Trauma Informed Astrology project:

We are getting videos for the next course completed. Recently, we have been going through the Outer Planets (including Saturn) and looking at the Angles of the chart, and the Angular Houses in the chart.

I’m going to be honest, these videos take two – three times longer than I expect. For instance, when I made slides about Uranus in the Angular Houses, it takes us (Emily, Michele, and I) an hour to get through them. I love that Michele and Emily are adding excellent insights and potent metaphors! And this is one tiny section in the great list of topics for this course.

With things taking longer than I expect (I do currently have Transiting Pluto opposite my Jupiter – so that means I am dreaming big and underestimating the time it will take!), I am thinking that Level Two – the Western Astrology & the Polyvagal System will end up being offering in two 20-hour sections! Whoa! This is fine, of course. I am just not certain when we will be done with the recordings – because then I can decide where to split the course material up! I know, this is a good problem to have.

We are hoping to be done with the recordings by late April. I am gradually getting the editing done when I can, so hopefully we can have the course (or two parts) ready by May or June.

Trauma Informed Astrology Level Two course content continues to go well!

Hello Dear Ones,

We (Emily Lamoureux, Michele Anderson, and myself) are going through the course content for Level Two, Western Astrology & the Polyvagal System and we are getting some great results!

Between the three of us, we have more than 55 years of experience studying & practicing astrology and it shows!

We are all staying busy, so finding good times to get together happens about twice a month. That means we are producing about two hours of solid recordings / month.

So far, we have completed the Intro & Welcome & Where this course is headed video, we have reviewed Nervous System Foundations (Level One – already completed), both the nervous system theory and the somatic exercises, we have discussed Frequency Based Astrology – approaching clients where they are, we have gotten into Astrology as a Love Language & Astrology is a Divine Language, plus we have covered the Hemispheres and some of the Outer Planets! I would say we are close to being halfway done.

I am excited to be a co-leader for this upcoming retreat. Take Back Your Health (owned by Robin Shirley) has been doing these retreats for more than 8 years, so they are a well-oiled machine. I am co-leading this retreat with Bob Soulliere – who does Functional Breathwork and Vim Hoff method breathing and Hilda Labrada Gore who does Ancient Nutrition and is the host and producer of the Wise Traditions podcast in association with the Weston A. Price Foundation.

Helping to co-lead a retreat at the beach in November

Hello Dear Ones,

I will be joining a great team in November to help co-lead a retreat. I will offer workshops on easy Embodiment Tools, Qigong, and bodywork. The name of the beach retreat is Take Back Your Health Retreat. Robin Shirley has been offering these for six years now, and she and her team have benefited many people!

The dates are Nov 6th – 10th. The retreat is at a gorgeous house in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. There may be as many as 20 participants, with a very spacious schedule (and a large spacious house).

There is daily yoga, time and space for relaxing, walking on the beach, doing your own practice, etc. And there will be workshops offered by several of us – one on Functional Breathwork, another on Ancient Nutrition, I’m offering two workshops – one using tools from Zapchen Somatics and the in the other we will go through somatic embodiment tools associated with each Astrology sign.

On top of all this, the food is incredible – all organic, gluten free, no GMO’s, with a lot of paleo options!

Really Enjoying Working on Trauma Informed Astrology Level 2 Course

Hello Dear Ones,

We are getting started with videos (and recordings) for the Western Astrology & the Polyvagal System Course, Level Two in the T.I. Astrology Essentials Level Certification process. And I am thoroughly enjoying this exploration and deeper dive!

We will spend a good amount of time exploring the Outer Planets (plus Saturn), and in particular looking at these planets and their positions in the Angular Houses and Succedent Houses. This is in addition to the other six or seven vital topics and subjects we are getting into.

Working on Astrology & the Polyvagal System course, other projects / groups to follow

Hello Dear Ones,

I am working with several people on the second level of the Trauma Informed Astrology course, Western Astrology & the Polyvagal System. In spite of our having a great team for this project, it still takes time!

We have chosen to work on a very ambitious concept – blending Western Astrology, Somatic & Embodiment Tools, with Nervous System Theory and eventually Nervous System Repair! Figuring out how best to get this brand-new, ahead-of-the-curve offering out there does take time and experimentation!

We are very excited to be doing this work, and making progress on it! However, that also means that several other projects / ideas for groups are being postponed.

I want to offer a Mastermind group of pay-what-you-can discussion groups once or twice / month. And on a more personal note, I also want to start a meditation group (in Charlottesville, in-person only) soon as well. But the above class has to take priority – having the team in place and committed to completing this course in the next three to four months is important – we want to get this vital and potent material out there as soon as possible!
