As a tiny bit of context to this post, look up retrograde movement of planets on Wikipedia if you don’t know what retrograde means.

I have been too busy to peek, but I wonder how many people are writing about the building T-Square in the sky right now. It involves Venus, Mars and Uranus. (And my natal Jupiter… but that is personal) ūüôā

The bizarre part about this is that all three of these planets are either slowing down to go retrograde, are just coming out of retrograde (moving slowly out of stationing direct) or are currently retrograde. It seems like it has been a long while since something like this has happened? If I were to hazard a guess – 20 years?

Therefore, not only will relationships have a wrench thrown in them for a couple weeks (or longer), but the pace and timing of these normally quick personal planets (Mars & Venus) are much slower and possibly even distorted as Venus slows to station retrograde.

Uranus is retrograde in early Taurus. Mars is barely direct, creeping through the sky (from our perspective), in very late Capricorn – it reenters Aquarius in a week. And Venus is beginning to slow significantly in late Libra as it preps to turn Rx in early Scorpio on Oct 6th. In other words, wow! Should be an interesting time in the news, in relationships and I can easily see emotions and tempers flaring in the sports world.

The real zinger is if someone has a personal planet or a chart ruler in late Cardinals signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra or Capricorn) or early fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius). Then this T-Square really pulls a punch! For me as I mentioned above, it is tweaking my natal Jupiter which I have exalted in late Cancer.

Depending on house placements and which planets are involved, this might manifest in many many ways. For instance, having these three planets transiting your angular houses (1st, 4th, 7th and / or 10th) will make the manifestation very tangible and real in your life. Probably showing up in your relationships (1st / 7th) or in your public / home life (4th / 10th).

Uranus is the unpredictable planet which demands the truth. It marches to the beat of its own drum, has very impulsive ingenious energy. It is the mad scientist energy and it also plays a major role in spontaneous, insightful, creativity and all things off-planet/outside-the-box like astrology, acupuncture, astrophysics and healing with electricity (for instance, like working with Tesla coils in healing).

Venus shows what we like, what we desire, what do we long for. This includes clothing, fashion items, luxury items, bedding, how we pamper ourselves, etc. It is also our aesthetic sense – do we have refinement, an artistic bent or are we more bohemian and devil-may-care? Venus shows what we like in relationships as well as physical items. Do we want more freedom in relationships (Sagittarius / Aquarius)? Do we want to be front and center in them (Leo / Cancer)? Are we more plodding, patient, taking our time (Taurus and to a certain extent other earth signs)?

Mars is the energy which shows how we go about getting what we want. Are we aggressive? Assertive? Combative? Is there a little refinement or are we gruff and vulgar? Uranus would add some temporary vulgarity and coarseness during this brief transit by the way. Mars rules steel, weapons, steel vehicles, firearms (along with Uranus),  and more.

When all three of these come together… look out! Stay away from firearms for a few weeks. Especially if there is anyone around who might go off emotionally. Speaking of emotions – Venus square Mars increases passion – those two planets alone! Add Uranus, and well, now we have a potential powder keg for any individuals without much awareness of how to self-regulate.

I can easily see players on professional sports teams getting ejected for crazy, rash, impulsive, violent, emotional reactions. No matter what sport – especially soccer, football and who knows, if a pitcher plunks a batter who has this T-Square hitting his natal Pluto or Mars… then there might be a bench-clearing fight on our hands! (Baseball for those not in the US or Japan)

And as we have impulsivity, heightened reactions and increased passions, of course relationships are going to be affected! Be aware that you might want to think twice, take some deep breaths before reacting emotionally for the next couple weeks. Take a little bit of time and space to let your head clear if you can. Nothing like making a huge mistake and wishing you could have taken that outburst back.. Of course it can be repaired. And with Mars and Venus involved, love making might help with that repair – provided there is enough trust at that point.

So may cooler heads prevail. May everyone have the insight and awareness to notice when their egos are heating up, or putting up a serious resistance. At least with these planets involved (at least Mars and Venus), we tend to blow hot quickly and then cool off just as quick. Although with Uranus in the mix, the affront might be too egregious. Then it will take time to repair and forgive.

Lay off the gas. Slow down. Take some deep breaths. Yin yoga. Feldenkrais, Craniosacral Therapy, Deep Tissue massage would all be good during this time.

And good luck! ūüôā

Thanks for reading as always!

The astrological interpretation of Venus in Virgo in the natal chart is often times less-than-positive.  Authors talk about the individual being critical of their partners, nagging and cold.  Some karmic astrologers even go so far as to say that Venus in Virgo is the sign of someone who has been less-than-loving in a past life (lives) and that debt is coming home now.  Of course, when criticism comes into the mind, loving-kindness generally departs swiftly, this is fairly obvious.  But how can we simply stop this deeply ingrained, crystal-clear yet critical gaze in its tracks?

With all this said however, what is guaranteed with Venus in Virgo?  Will the individual put off marriage (due to their seeing imperfections in potential partners)?

I would argue that like astrology in general, where I practice frequency-based astrology, people with Venus in Virgo are quite unique Рwe cannot place them all in one basket and hope that our interpretation will work out for the majority of them.  Frequency-based astrology says that we must determine the frequency of the individual (where they are spiritually, emotionally, maturity-wise, self-care wise, renunciation, etc) before we can paint an accurate picture of how their astrology chart reflects their lives.

I have found, at least here in the United States, that most of the time, Venus in Virgo is associated with a strong religious upbringing.¬† This could be a strong Catholic influence or it might be a strict Protestant environment.¬† However, this is not always the case.¬† When religion plays a role, Venus in Virgo is often joined by other planets in Virgo (or a strong 6th house stellium for instance). If I see three or more planets in Virgo though, I am almost always rewarded with a surprised answer when I say, “So your family was quite religious, right?” Yep, usually the case.

Sometimes Venus in Virgo comes with a strong familial heritage – I have several clients who were raised in tightly-knit immigrant families here in the United States.¬† In their culture of origin, there are a lot of ‚Äúshoulds‚ÄĚ about what a good girl does and does not do.¬† In these cases, religion has less to do with the strict Virgoan perceptions. But the inner critic is there nonetheless.

I believe that most people have the resources internally to change their minds.  Literally to transform their mental attitudes and patterns.  Now, as you can probably surmise, this is not exactly easy to do, nor is it going to be a fast process.

However, life does this for the large majority of us.  We put up enough resistance to necessary change that eventually we realize that the only thing causing us suffering is our resistance, and we begrudgingly shift our stance.

Likewise, people with Venus in Virgo can change their minds and melt any frozen tissue around their hearts, allowing in some openness, acceptance, and compassion – basically embracing the mystery which their Venus in Pisces cousins so easily put their faith in.

Keeping all of this in mind, two more things before we wrap up. First people with Venus in Virgo might be the late-comers to the relationship table as it were. These people might put off marriage or partnering for some time. Rarely – like Venus in Virgo in the 12th or 6th house rare – Venus in Virgo might prefer to be a recluse or live a hermit lifestyle. And even then it is not set in stone – look to the Moon’s Nodes for further information on this topic.

Second, it is possible for us to delve deeper below the conscious surface and to literally change our minds and our heats. See my previous posts about doing birth process work or Pre- and Perinatal Therapy or working with Double Binds. Once we start to ply apart the tangled web of inherited patterns and habits and assumptions from our ancestors (honoring them in the process), once we have the desire to heal our ancestral lineage and start working with a professional who has the skills to hold that type of container, then we can gain more equanimity or strengthen our loving-kindness and compassion to become a different person. I know it sounds kind of preposterous. But I have done it. Where I was fifteen years ago, and where I am today – people from my high school do not recognize me; it is literally a night and day change.

Working with legitimate heart teachers can change us for the better, and drastically change us. We can become more resilient, clearer, more articulate about our needs, etc. We can fully embrace our inheritance as human beings. ūüôā

So if you have Venus in Virgo, don’t fret. Find an authentic spiritual teacher or a spiritual (religious) lineage that you resonate with and start doing some practice. Work to melt any icy areas around your heart. Forgive yourself, your parents, grieve anything that was left incomplete, etc. And if your karma (frequency) is positive enough, then you have nothing to worry about. The colder more critical side of Virgo may have transformed to come out through service and generosity and loving-kindness.

In this post, I am going to be covering what occurs when the same Natal Planet has both a square and a trine aspect to it. ¬†As an example, let’s take Venus. ¬†And please keep in mind that I am going to oversimplify things a bit here to keep this post below 1000 words. ¬†Also I intend to include what it means to have both a square and a trine aspect to a planet and how transits can reflect activation of the trine OR square (or both).

And now for the planets that are aspecting the Natal Venus.  Let us use Pluto as the planet making the trine and Uranus as the planet making the square.  So what do these mean on a regular basis for this individual?

Believe it or not, Pluto is an intense planet ūüôā ¬†And even in its trine configuration, it can still indicate a powerful effect on the individual. ¬†So we have Pluto trine Venus – of course the signs and houses matter, but let’s just keep it simple. ¬†Pluto can indicate a stickiness, a pattern of lusting or yearning for relationships or union (Pluto wants power and control and one of Venus’ arenas is love and relationships and union). ¬†Pluto here might indicate that this native goes out of his or her way to charm or magnetize others – he or she wants closeness, and they might want to be possessive about their partner. ¬†There is a full body of literature about Pluto and its relationship to Venus, so let’s pause there and go on to Uranus. Just think that Pluto is yearning to be close to a partner (probably stemming from some unmet need as a baby or youngster).

Again, Uranus is an intense planet, believe it or not. ¬†And here we have Uranus making a square to this individual’s Venus. ¬†Trying to keep it simple, what might this indicate? ¬†House placement and signs involved really matter here as Uranus has many flavors depending on the lens through which it is focused. But that would take another 50 pages to write about… ¬†So Uranus square Venus says this individual marches to the beat of their own drum – their sense of style is unique and possibly ahead of the curse, maybe a little perverse or bohemian. ¬†The way they do relationships would be different – they would require some space and they would definitely need to have a partner who is dynamic and ingenuous (they would easily get bored with a conventional, traditional, stick-in-the-mud type of person). ¬†If this square were really close, like within 3 degrees, then there is the chance that this person might have strong views about marriage (and about not wanting to be married). ¬†They might want an open relationship. ¬†But the independence and sense of freedom would be paramount with this aspect.

When we combine both of these examples above, what do we have? ¬†Pluto’s longing and yearning for connection and control (and possibly lust and being sexual) would contrast strongly with Uranus’ need for freedom and independence. ¬†This is the person who would not have an easy first few relationships in their lives – in high school or college years, there would be confusion about how did I love someone so dearly and then push them away like I did? ¬†That person might have felt like a soul mate AND the relationship with them was too intense, too steamy, too connected. ¬†It was uncomfortable. ¬†This is what I refer to as a dichotomy. ¬†The sooner this individual could clean this up (bring awareness and acknowledgement to this inner dynamic, and then work on meeting unmet emotional needs from early developmental years, etc), the better his / her relationships would go. ¬†But this is a strange pairing indeed.

As an aside, this is one of the benefits of studying or going to see a Spiritual Astrologer Рthey can objectively see these inner dichotomies and how the individual is having a conflict within their hearts.  And hopefully with skill and compassion, the Astrologer can help the person start to untie those inner knots of frustration and confusion.

Back on the topic: what does it mean to have this strange dynamic in the astrology chart and then have transits come along and activate either the trine or the square aspect?  With Uranus square Venus, you have four chances to activate it Рwhen a transiting planet is conjunct either Uranus or Venus, square either of them or opposite either of them (say we have Saturn opposite Uranus, then Saturn should also be making a square to Natal Venus).  When an outer planet or a progressed planet comes into a point of activation of this square, the individual might really cry out for freedom and space and independence.  They would not want to be in a steamy passionate relationship at that time.  Rather, they might want to recharge and renew alone Рin their personal sanctuary, or they might want to go for a hike with a group of people (where they can hide or interact with multiple people and be safe from the intense one-on-one relationships the Pluto / Venus aspect would indicate).  If a major transiting planet, like Pluto or Uranus or Jupiter comes along into an activation point, that might be a time for big transition Рthe person may terminate a relationship, outgrowing a structure which seems to be out-dated and less-than-beneficial.

At the same time, when the Pluto trine Venus is activated (at the trine point to both planets, or by a planet coming along and making a sextile to both planets – effectively sitting on their midpoint), then this individual might have a blossoming relationship or a new insight into the machinations of their heart. ¬†Just to be clear above, if we have Pluto in Sagittarius and Venus is in Leo, then the “best” activation point for this trine is to have a planet in Aries making a trine to both Pluto AND Venus. ¬†Or if a planet comes along through Libra and makes a sextile aspect to both Pluto and Venus, then this would activate it a bit as well.

The Pluto Venus trine being activated would indicate a time when this native could be more close to someone.  A time for opening their heart Рespecially if they have done some of their emotional work to get clearer about this bizarre dynamic from above.  If nothing else, having a plant like Jupiter or Mars come along and trine both Pluto and Venus would indicate a week or a short time of new relationships coming into their life, or a new attraction, or a blossoming and deepening of an existing one.  It would be comfortable and fun to flirt and play and mix it up a little.  But the native would still probably do the relationship in a manner in which they get their requisite space and freedom and independence.

As you can see, Spiritual Astrology can really dive in deep to analyze one particular aspect or set of aspects coming off of a Natal planet.  Of course we could go much much deeper once the rest of the chart is interpreted.  House placements, the Ascendant, the ruling planets and more will determine more of how Natal Venus would dance with Pluto and Uranus.

This is a post about Western Astrology and specifically about Transits to the Natal chart. This post will go into Saturn mixing it up with Venus.

A lot of what I am going to say might also be applicable for any hard aspect between Tr. Saturn and Na. Venus (applying square, opposition, separating square or the conjunction). Remember, conjunctions can either be hard or soft aspects depending on which planets are involved.

I am presently experiencing the separating square between Transiting Saturn and Natal Venus. Considering Saturn’s orbit around the Sun takes about 29 years, these hard aspects tend to fall about 7 years apart. So, one way to see what may be coming is to look back and see what was happening 7 or 14/15 years ago – the last time a hard aspect went down between these two.

I recommend getting your chart done by a professional astrologer. I could post hundreds of instances here about various astrological configurations and still be WAY OFF the mark about your individual precise chart. Because I don’t have the time to write the 144 posts about, “if your Venus is in the 1st house and Saturn is squaring it from the 10th…” or 2nd house, or 3rd house, etc. Eae Gads that would be a ton of work!

What I am saying is that this particular square will be different depending on whether you have an Angular Venus (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th houses), AND this aspect will be received differently by the individual depending on what other aspects are happening. For instance, if we have Jupiter making a Trine to the Natal Sun, along with Progressed Venus making a conjunction with the Sun (both typically positive aspects), then this particular transit might not be challenging in the least. However, if we have several difficult transits going on at the same time this is in effect, then some of the more extreme forms of what I describe below may be experienced.

What is Saturn? Saturn represents reality, pragmatic energy and structure among other things. Saturn says to us, “Get real, get your head out of the clouds, make a plan, develop a strategy for attaining your goals, and if you don’t… then you may feel lonely, down in the dumps, pessimistic or cynical.” Planning, consensus, laws, restrictions, limitations, practical common sense, caution, boundaries and grounded process are all Saturnian key words.

What is Venus? Venus is what we want. It represents what we like, what we desire, who we desire, etc. Without afflicted aspects, Venus is refined, charming, generous, compassionate and kind and oriented toward aesthetics. It is how we like to be romanced. If Venus had its way however, we might not ever leave the comforts of a beautiful luxurious home – picture the Romans eating grapes and drinking wine on comfortable divans – and then you are reaching one Venusian paradise. Venus also has to do with what fashions we appreciate, colors, do we lean toward symmetry or asymmetry? Depending on the sign, house and aspects, Venus can show if we are more traditional in our dress and mannerisms or if we are more bohemian or rebellious.

So what happens when the down-to-earth, get-real-or-have-your-eyes-rudely-awakened Saturn makes this hard aspect to potentially rose-colored-glasses-wearing Venus? Well, depending on where you are in life, this can be a rough wake up call to be sure! Perhaps you just divorced or got out of a serious relationship not too long ago – this aspect could lead to feeling lonely or sad about relationship decisions. (Of course we can feel lonely whether or not we have recently been in a relationship!) Or, if you are in relationship with someone, if might lift the veil of illusions and say, “Whoa! Who am I with and why? Why aren’t they moving forward in life? Time to get real or get out.” In this case, Saturn can indicate tests and challenges to your relationship. Of course, if you have a partner who is open and growth-oriented, mature and willing to change for the better, then you have very little to worry about!

[Update from Nov 2017] Here we must bring frequency-based astrology into play: meaning, if you are really evolved and mature, then you have most likely attracted and gone after a mature and responsible partner. If this is the case, then Saturn making a hard aspect to Venus might only be a little speed bump! But if we are mainly operating from our subconscious reactions and we have not done much personal growth work, then the tests and trials will definitely show up during this aspect. Especially regarding intimate relationships.

And that is just one area where this aspect might indicate introspection. Another area is money and the way in which we acquire it. Working is one of the main ways we earn money, and Venus rules money (what we value), so working is closely influenced by Venus. On top of this, Saturn’s desire for structure and planning plays a prominent role in many jobs. As a little tangent, if we have a well-aspected Venus in Taurus, then we may be willing to work 50 – 60 hours a week for a few years to acquire that nice town house in a beautiful part of town, and / or that nice BMW, and / or that exquisite cherry furniture we have had our eye on for years now… Right?! But if we have a poorly aspected Venus in Aquarius or Pisces or Virgo, then we may say, “Work 50 – 60 hours a week? Are you INSANE?! No, I would rather be content with Goodwill clothing and be able to enjoy my simple pleasures, plant my own garden and be HAPPY most the time.” ūüôā This is why you see a professional astrologer – there are so many variables to factor in, that no Astrological recipe book is going to fit you exactly (unless you write it, and even then it will stay static while you continue to evolve and grow).

So back from the tangent… Saturn transiting Venus in a hard aspect can lead to the realization that you are not up to the task(s) that you have set for yourself. Maybe you have been thinking, “you know, I could be a great general manager! I could easily earn $100,000 in a few years.” Well, if you don’t have this capacity, or lack any executive ability, then GOOD LUCK! And guess when you would rudely confront yourself about your lack of skills for what you have planned? Yep – during this transit! You will come down to earth one way or another.

So to wrap up, I actually love Saturn. Sometimes the truth hurts, but I would rather know the truth than wander around in a deluded fog all my life! I love how Saturn indicates, “Are you sure? How do you know? What makes you think that? What is your plan for attaining those goals? Do you REALLY have those skills or that capacity?” It asks the difficult questions which are necessary to have some gain and growth and structure in your life. Whether it is aspecting the Sun, or Venus, or Mercury, we will have the chance to confront some aspect of ourselves. And that confrontation may be uncomfortable. But who among us is extremely comfortable with the unknown, comfortable with change, with transformation?

Mythologically, I think there was a reason that Saturn (Cronos) ruled the Universe for a time – and under his rule, it was a Golden Age! The reason is that without rules, without boundaries, without a clear understanding of our limitations, without appropriate boundaries, we will be recklessly depleting our energy, we could just bounce from job to job without ever growing, without learning the life lessons which are constantly being presented.

So this Aspect might be rough when you are in it, but you will look back on it and say, “you know, I’m glad I saw that part of myself in a raw, objective fashion. Otherwise who knows what I might have done?!” So be grateful for Saturn. Do the work it is suggesting, receive its hard-nosed, common sense blessings. And you will be better for it.

Good luck! (To myself included)

Thanks for reading.

When we think of Astrological Venus, whether or not we have much experience with astrology, we probably think what? That men are from Mars and women are from Venus? Yeah, and? Well… Venus is the female symbol. Yes. What else? Venus is one of the brightest “stars” in the sky, occasionally rising before the Sun (as Phosphorus) and sometimes setting after it (as Hesperus), the morning and evening star respectively. Venus is apparently a very hot, dry planet if you were able to peek through its thick cloud cover. But now let’s change gears and look at the esoteric interpretation of it’s symbol.

What is the symbol of Venus? We see a circle representing the spirit, the unborn and the unceasing over a cross of the material (form) realm. In Isabel Hickey’s book, Astrology: A Cosmic Science, she indicates that this symbol shows the ultimate power of unconditional loving-kindness and limitless compassion (the circle) to overcome anything worldly (the cross), which is Venus in its highest manifestation. I would happen to agree here, but I don’t think many of us encounter Venus in such a pure, ego-free manner.

Personally, I think of Venus as being similar to the concept of Yin (versus Yang which may be more aligned with Mars). Yin is an Eastern concept for the essence that is fertile, receptive, yielding and fluid. It is a very slippery dynamic, one that I believe must be felt, experienced, embraced before we can gain a fuller understanding of its machinations.

But, despite ancient Hellenistic astrologers calling Venus the Lesser Benefic, what happens when we have too much Venus in our charts? What happens when we have multiple transits and progressions activating Venus (or we have personal planets that GET activated by Venus)? At that point, we get the chance, if we are ready, and if conditions are ripe, to see how our mind deals with desire.

During these times, there might be a romantic, passionate tryst. There might be overindulgence in sensual pleasures such as wine or chocolate or furs or Ritz Carltons, etc. But what happens when we pause in the midst of this desire? What happens if we break up with someone during one of these heavy-Venus-laden times? What happens if Uranus gets involved and we lose everything (temporarily) in the midst of Venusian yearnings?

That is where the rubber meets the road my friends. That is the true chance to practice contemplation and introspection. And at this, you might say, “DUHH!!” And rightfully so. But what happens when we unpack those feelings? What happens when we sit with the raw element of an unpacked emotion – such as fear, or vulnerability, or shame? Allowing it to sweep over us, whether it takes three hours or three days? Have we ever allowed ourselves the time to feel something until it is completely exhausted?

No? Well neither have I. But I wonder what is hidden beneath those luxurious layers of Venus’ silkily sensual satisfactions. What pearls and gems await our discovery? What is our hectic, busy, discursive mind afraid of our discovering? Oh how I wonder.

What do I mean by seeing how our mind deals with desire? Well, if we have the positive karma for it, during times of heavy Venus (or Jupiter, the Greater Benefic, for that matter), we will be faced with abundance – possibly a poverty of riches (to borrow a phrase). What do we do at that point? Do we fall in head first, drunk with pleasure and constantly want more? Or do we stick with what we know, what is stable and steady (and what is actually Saturnian and disciplined)? How can we find a balance? This is the test actually.

This constant desire for more brings up an anecdote: there was once a monk who happened to come across a great treasure – an enormous, perfect sapphire. This monk said to himself, “I am going to give this perfect gem to the poorest person in the land, because they need it more than anyone else.” So do you know who he ended up giving that gem to? Well, to the King of course, the only man in the kingdom who had everything, and who still wanted more.

To conclude, I do not think of Venus or Jupiter for that matter, and not even Saturn, as challenging influences in the astrological chart. I feel that certain astrological dynamics will reflect various situations in our lives where we may have too much of a good thing (Venusian or Jovial abundance). Then we are tested – are we content? Can we let go and enjoy just a taste? Do we yearn for more, having tasted a little bliss, lusting ever further?

If you go back through my previous Spiritual Astrology posts, you will discover at least one post on the benefits of astrological Saturn. And here, I paint an abundantly-strained picture of what happens with too much of anything, even too much of a good thing. If and when you come across a really really good year (which probably has Venus and / or Jupiter functioning behind the scenes) what do you choose? Balance or excess indulgence? It is certainly possible, although for many of us, it can come as such a surprise that it catches us off guard. This is where a good coach or teacher can come in handy – reflecting our situations back to us, suggesting moderation and sticking with wise choices.

So yes, I suggest vigilance and mindful awareness even in the midst of positive transits. You might even say, especially in the midst of these blessed aspects. Keep alert to all the little tricks your discursive mind can play and then you will be on your way to equanimity and the middle way.

This was written by Spiritual Astrology Kirby Moore, an ordinary human being whose mind continues to amaze and surprise him with its layers of attachment and aversion. Thanks for reading.
